On November 10 the Master Luz Milagros Vivanco Canchari defended her doctoral thesis entitled “Factors of the missionary commitment of young people from Vitarte during the 2020 pandemic: a qualitative study.” This qualitative study developed using Grounded Theory identified four key categories that sustained youth missionary commitment: pro-social leadership, empathy, altruism and spirituality. Through the testimonies of the young people, it became evident how faith activates sensitivity towards suffering, selfless service and spiritual accompaniment allowed the mission to continue even in the midst of the health crisis. The research contributes to youth missiology by offering a deep understanding of how these categories are used to strengthen missionary vocation in adverse contexts and provides practical guidance for working with young people in the church.
